THE BROADCASTERS FOUNDATION OF **AMERICA** **NAMES JIM THOMPSON PRESIDENT *

The Broadcasters of today announced that Thompson has been selected as its new president, effective August 4. Last October, BFA began a search for a new president to continue the work of its current leader, Gordon H. Hastings.
“Jim’s leadership abilities and his knowledge of the broadcast industry, makes him the ideal cand idate for this position,” said Philip J. Lombardo, Chairman of the Broadcasters Foundation of America and head of the search committee.

“I am honored and excited to take on this role with the Broadcasters Foundation of America,” Thompson said. “I’m grateful to Philip and the search committee for giving me this opportunity to continue the foundation’s mission of helping broadcasters in need.”
Thompson is an active member of the broadcast community. He served as Vice President and General Manager of ‘s KYW-TV from 1985 to 1989. Thompson moved to Group W Radio in 1989 as President. He has also held positions as partner of Liberty Broadcasting, of Hibernia Communications and of Craven-Thompson Communications.

Thompson, a Vietnam veteran, is a graduate of Harvard Business School ‘s Advanced Management Program and also attended St. Joseph ‘s University and Temple University . He is active in numerous charitable and industry related organizations such as the Radio Advertising Bureau and the National Association of Broadcasters. Thompson was named “Man of the Year” by the Philadelphia Ad Club and Radio Broadcaster of the Year by Pulse. Thompson resides in New Jersey with his wife, Cindy, and their five children.

Gordon Hastings will reestablish Gordon Hastings & Associates, the management firm he formed and operated in the early 1990’s prior to becoming BFA’s full-time leader in 1994. Through his company, Hastings will continue his involvement with the BFA by marketing the Golden Mike Awards, Celebrity , NAB and the Offshore Fishing and Family Weekend.
