The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that they will honor the award-winning Steve Harvey with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. “Steve is a man of many talents!” said Leron Gubler, President/CEO of the Hollywood Chamber. “We are thrilled that he is joining our Walk of Fame family,” he added.
From stand-up comedy to TV, radio, books and the movies, Steve Harvey has established a multi-faceted entertainment and media career since his beginnings doing stand-up in the mid-1980s. His career has continued to flourish, from an award-winning stint hosting It’s Showtime at the Apollo, and the record-breaking Kings of Comedy tour, to becoming a top-rated radio host, producer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, popular game show host on Family Feud, and 2013 People’s Choice Award winner as “Favorite New Talk Show Host” for his new daytime show Steve Harvey.
In September of 2000, Rushion McDonald and Steve Harvey created the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, which currently airs Monday through Friday, 6 to 10 a.m. EST with nearly 70 radio stations and approximately 6 million weekly listeners. Syndicated by Premiere Networks since 2005 and also available online, the No. 1 rated show features inspirational advice, comedy segments, interviews, listener segments, as well as the popular “Strawberry Letter” segment, where Harvey responds to listeners’ relationship questions. Harvey has also released two books, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, and Straight Talk, No Chaser, which have sold millions of copies worldwide and hit No. 1 on the New York Times Best Sellers List.
On television, in addition to a seven-year stint hosting Apollo, he starred in ABC’s Me and The Boys, the WB shows The Steve Harvey Show for six seasons and Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge for two seasons, and Centric’s The Steve Harvey Project, which showcased Harvey and his Steve Harvey Morning Show co-hosts.
Harvey is currently hosting his third season of the long-running syndicated game show Family Feud. Since Season 14 premiered on September 10, 2012, Family Feud has been soaring to record-high ratings. Harvey’s memorable reactions and hilarious rapport with the competing families have been widely praised, and ratings continue to surge and smash records since his debut as the new host in September 2010.
On September 4, 2012, Harvey debuted his new syndicated daytime show Steve Harvey, which combines Harvey’s humor and discussions of everyday life covering relationships, parenting, the workplace, everyday heroes and a range of other topics with guests and the audience. The show has been a phenomenon in all key ratings benchmarks, becoming one of the most successful new first-run syndication launches in the past decade.
Harvey has also hit the big screen in movies such as The Original Kings of Comedy, Love Don’t Cost a Thing, You Got Served, Johnson Family Vacation, Madea Goes to Jail, and the No. 1 box office smash Think Like A Man, which was adapted from his first book. The 2012 release quickly made box office history, which features Harvey as himself in the movie and as one of the executive producers.
Born in West Virginia, Harvey was raised in Ohio as the youngest of five children.
