With all the contoversary surrounding the city of Chicago regarding the violence in the city, spike lee has released the trailer for his film Chi-Raq. The film was already under fire in city of Chicago for the title alone. Many Chi-town residents find the title offensive and they feel it feeds into the stereotype and helps to perpetuate the violence problem. Others are eager to see them film to see Spike’s interpretation of the drama going on in Chicago
From the trailer, the film seems to mix of School Daze, Do The Right Thing, Bamboozled, and maybe even a little of Crooklyn. I’m not sure where Spike is going with this but the film’s synopsis reads as such,
“Chi-Raq is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. After the murder of a Child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago’s Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.”
We will see how the world repsonds to this film that features quite a few popular actors including, Wesley Snipes, Nick Cannon, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson and many more.
