The Staples Center in Los Angeles erupted into applause when award winning artist Prince strolled onstage at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards to present the statue for Record Of The Year. Warmly received with a standing ovation, the 54 year old carried with him a glittering walking cane.
Prince has reportedly required double hip replacement surgery since 2005. As he is a Jehovah’s Witness, blood transfusions are against his beliefs. His condition is said to be aggravated by repeated onstage dancing in high heeled boots. There are alternative methods available, however, to perform such procedures which do not require blood transfusion. Journalist Peter Willis shut down such speculation by describing Prince as quite agile when he interviewed him in 2010 and indeed, the artist did not appear to rely upon the walking device for support last night.
Prince has earned seven Grammy Awards to date, and has had two albums − “1999” and “Purple Rain” − win the Grammy Hall of Fame Award. His new website http://prince2013.com/ was launched last month.
