My very first hip hop concert featured Heavy D & The Boyz, the Fat Boys, and Salt-N-Pepa. I will never forget it because I was so captivated by the three groups that it has burned a memory that I will never forget into my brain. If I remember correctly, the Fat Boys were the headliner while Salt-N-Pepa was one of the opening acts. I knew they were talented then but I had no idea that would go on to be one the most successful groups in the history of music.
To honor that legacy, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted their 7th Annual “Women Behind The Music” series on Wednesday, October 28th at Subrosa inNew York City. This year’s one-city series, which encourages and recognizes women in the music community, honored the trailblazing and GRAMMY® Award-Wining rap group, Salt-N-Pepa, for their 30-year career and accomplishments within the music business. The evening featured musical sounds by DJ Quiana Parks and a special performance of hit single “Shoop” by Salt-N-Pepa themselves. ASCAP’s EVP Membership John Titta and VP Membership, Rhythm & Soul Nicole George-Middleton were also in attendance and presented Salt-N-Pepa with honorary plaques for their monumental contributions to the music community. The intimate evening offered sponsored pours of BelAire Rose.
