Photo/audio: President Barack Obama interview with SIRIUS XM Radio’s Joe Madison in the Oval Office

SIRIUS XM host Madison (“The Black Eagle”) did an interview with President Barack Obama September 14   in the Oval Office that aired today, September 15, on his daily show on The Power (XM channel 169/SIRIUS Internet Radio channel 820).  Madison, a thirty-year veteran of talk radio, is widely recognized as a human and civil rights activist and abolitionist against slavery in Sudan and genocide in Darfur.

Madison and Obama talked deficit, Darfur, housing issues, and African-American voter turnout midterm elections. The sit-down took place right before left for Philadelphia deliver his annual “Back-to-School Speech” to students across the nation. Obama reflected on his favorite teacher and talked about  his forthcoming children’s book, Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters, a tribute to thirteen historic American figures due out November 16 (Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers).

When asked about how in the face of budget deficit, how the administration planned to justify education funding, the President said, “we’ve put more money in [education], but we’ve also said we’re going to reform how the classroom works and emphasize giving a kids what they need and improving our teaching core.”
