Rice said he and the station have come to "a mutual decision" to part ways after about five years.
"They want to go one place, and I want to go another," said Rice, 44. "I'm doing more stuff on the East and West coasts."
WCCO program director Wendy Paulson said the station will conduct a national search for a replacement.
Rice said the station was not letting him go, even though he had written that earlier this month on his Facebook site: "For now, I have been laid off. It just isn't public yet. I think they are trying to figure out how to hand le it. Don't really know why as they have no problem firing people."
Tuesday, Rice characterized what he wrote as "just spouting off" and declined to address it further.
