Welcome back to another week of the Millennial Minute. This week I want to focus on succeeding at a job/career fair. Seems easy enough right? Well recently our team participated in a local University’s career fair and I was shocked at some of the things heard there.
Just to name a few:
- “I’m just here for class participation”
- “What yal got for me”
- “I didn’t think I needed a resume today”
- “Is it a paid internship, I only want it paid”
- “I’m not prepared for an interview today, can I email you later”
Now I agree that this small sample of students is not a full reflection of the entire generation (there were a handful of extremely prepared, articulate, professional students in attendance) but if one of us fail, we all fail, so HOUSTON we have a problem!
There are a number of things I would have done to prepare better while in College attending job fairs, so here’s my two cents for your next opportunity. Like my mom always said, when you know better, you do better! So let’s get to work.
