For Michael Baisden, Detroit Listeners Respond to Show’s Removal. Do Nice Guys Finish Last?

baisdenI find this picture of Mike in front of the Mic disrespectful to those of us who have earned a radio career (laugh, I really could are less). These are the comments that have been coming in about Michael’s show being canned in Detroit. I personally applaud the decision as I feel about syndication hosts the way actors feel about rappers acting in movies. I could never listen to Mike’s show because of his “yucking” style. It’s like he listened to a black DJ from the 70s and mimicked him. “Familayeeeeeeeeeee….” BUT he does often cover some great topics, nothing, of course, a local show could not do. Comments below range from everything to people who despise him to those who want to give birth to his children (laugh).

Thank God someone has come to their senses. This guy is out to destroy the black family. His constant attacks on marriage and married people is sickening. I hope everyone cancels this disgrace of a show.

Be honest radio folks. Did you ever think that show was entertaining anyway? No knock on what he’s accomplished, but c’mon. It’s sounds so low budget and small market, that it was just a matter of time before listeners didn’t buy into the hype any longer. R.I.P.

I think Michael Baisden is pretty much the voice of reason for alot of the radio programs syndicated in the Detroit area. He was the only one that talked about our president and ways that people can help him. He brought the the front alot of social issues that affect the African American cultures. I am ashamed that the voices of Black American are not more outrage at how our President is being portrayed. Michael Basiden at least gave insight to some of the political issues that affect Americans in general. Others Black programs just want to joke around and not even touch on how serious things are becoming.

  1. I am sorry that mxd took Mike off the air, which means i will be listening to Rev. Al on Am or to Xm radio, but I won’t be listening to MXD! Mike’s show was very informative and I thought it help to promote more thinking on the big issuses that are facing our country. Thank God for the internet because when I’m home i can still listen to Mike.

  2. this is what happens when u syndicate some 1 who made his living off of books of his personal sexual exploits then become the urban relationship expert, and then becomes a voice behind a mic, this is the best we can get from syndication?…. give them this and when they loose it they will seek high and low to refind it if they have the means to do so, a real reality today for some of us.

  3. I will not be listening to Frankie Darcell on my drive home. I barely listen to her when she was on in the mornings therefore I know I will not listen to her in the afternoon. Everything Frankie has to say, you can catch on your local news. I don’t care for Frankie, I don’t find her show informative, therefore I will not be listening.

I knew the day was going to come when they would try to take Michael Basiden off the air. Michael represented the voice of Black America on national issues and the powers that be (The republicans who are desperate to win in 2012) have paid the right people to have the Michael Baisden show taken off the air.

  4. I love Michael Baisden. His show give us a variety. His show talked about relationships (the good and the bad), health issues (which very few shows cover and he does it every Thursday), following your dreams, Hot News from around the country (if it wasn’t for him we would have never heard of the situation in Jena), Politics and I even like battle of the sexes. The reason I loved his shows was becuase is was balance, it give us entertainment as well as serious issues. I don’t always want to be serious, I love to have fun. What’s wrong with talking about relationship. I would like to know why people cheat and he has also done relationships about happy marriages so he is not against marriage. It’s funny but when he first came on radio, he was criticize a lot from men. They couldn’t understand that a man would want to talk about relationships and now everyone is trying to do Michael Baisden and copy his format. Steve Harvey is know giving relationship advice and wrote or book like Michael did. Even Brain McKnights is now talking about relationships on his show. It’s funny that he got so much negativity from men and now everyon his copying him. You go Mike, later for your haters.

  5. I am saddened that MB is off the air in Detroit.. not only was he informative; he was funny. It takes everything in me to stay awake while riding home with Frankie on the air.. she makes her show “all about her”.. I have never been a fan and now that she is the afternoon drive.. I still am not a fan. I an sure the “powers that be” will piss their pants; once another station picks him up. I personally am sending request to all other urban stations to look into it. Move Frankie back to the 10-3 spot.. when no one is really listening and bring Mike back. We are missing the NATIONAL news.. we can turn the local news on and see what Detroit is doing… I am disappointed, outraged and no longer a listener…

  6. Interesting comments. When Baisden first came on in Detroit, I didn’t care for him but he grew on me. I enjoyed his show and he did keep us informed on issues affecting the black community. I didn’t always agree with him and I didn’t listen every day. In fact, I just realized (on 9/29/09) that he was no longer on the air. I do not like Frankie Darcell. I stopped listening to her because of her obvious bias toward Kwame Kilpatrick. I think the station will lose listeners during this time slot.

  7. I listened to only 2 shows on 92.3 Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden. He got on my nerves sometimes but I thought it was a great business move to have him on the air. I was able to learn of events across the country and often contacted friends in other states who were able to join into the Michael Baisden discussion. It is sad to see him go. I am not a big Frankie Darcel fan. She is not bad. She does not have the energy and zest of the Michael Baisden show.

  8. It took me quite a while to begin to listen to the Michael Baisden show. A lot of the negative commentary others have presented is correct. However, Michael is a voice that can educate and entertain and not just aggravate. I was not a daily listener but did tune in whenever I was in the care during his time slot. If he was too scandalous I would move on to something else. But, I always listened for the information that would empower, educate, and encourage. And most times I could find something downright funny that made the drive a little easier to handle. So, as surprised as I am to say this, I, too, feel WMXD made a huge error in judgement by removing Baisden and replacing him with Ms. Darcell. Her show does nothing to make me take notice and I find her manner annoying. But, having said that, she is a sister doing her thing and I wish her well.

  9. I have mixed feelings on Mike’s removal from WMXD. A lot of his topics were really informative and funny, but a lot of his topics were offensive. You would have to listen while cringing or just switch to another station. Most days I choose to switch to another station other days I would get caught up in the topic and just be depressed at the state we really are in as a race.

  10. I didn’t like MB either after a while but I toloerated him until he made that George guy part of his show, but I can’t stand kwame’s “other woman”. Once a couple of years ago out of the blue she picked on martha Reeves for no good reason and we never got a reason as to why her producer Greg was taken off her show, i bet it was was because he didn’t agree with her on something. She is all about her and what she likes and if you don’t agree or agree to disagree which is really saying she is right she cuts you off. I only listen to the strawberry letter, Footie and the Saturday night show, other than that I listen to Mason and the rest of 107.5 all day, they do play a wide variety of music, give better parties and don’t play that same stuff Jamilla plays every 20 minutes. And Frankie caters to her favories, Rev Winans, and anyone else who would probably help her with her future political endeavors.

  11. I love Michael Baisden. I will not be listening to 92.3 or Frankie Darcell. She is one-sided and not entertaining at all. She does not keep us informed of national news and happenings. 92.3 made a big mistake on this one.

  12. Every since we started listening to Michael Baisden show me and my man really love it. He has some very good topics and is very formative about whats going on in the world. I also have my teenage son listening to his topics as well. Michael keep up the good work. Love ur show!

  13. Every since we started listening to the Michael Baisden show me and my man love it. He has very good topics and very formative about the world and is very concerned about our children, and I also have my teenage son listen to his show as well. All we have to say is “Keep up the good work and we love you”.

  14. There are people in this world who live in a box, and don’t want to think outside of it. they don’t know that where are swingers in the world and some people want to know what swingers do. the are gay youth out there who can’t express it to anyone because the world doen’t understand it, their are people who hate their job, hate their spouse and the list goes on and on. Michael Baisden took that list and took that mic and allowed the world to open their mind to the what if? the other side of life, the things we won’t talk about but, if someone else would. You all know there are pimps in the plupit, why cross Baisden down because you didn’t think of the ideal to open conversations that people actually want to hear and talk about. Michael saved alot of people money from talking to a shrink, the topics were helpful to some and the callers allowed the listeners to hear other peoples(not michaels) view on the subject.
Now he is back on at 105.9 kiss fm and 92.3 is going down the tubes.
cause most of their listeners are locked into 105.9 kiss fm. The topics have changed for Mr. Baisden, his passion for young people, and literary are taking the forefront. HAters, don’t listen, supporters enjoy the new home 105.9 kiss fm. It wasn’t about the topics anyway, 92.3 let him go because he wouldn’t play the playlist for frankie does, frankie don’t seem to be at the mic, I can tell you what’s about to play because her list never changes and that was before she was given his slot. all she had was commercials, which is why she probably got the time slot back. healthcare issue probably paid a big part in his removal too because as soon as he started talking about it. the air went silent and he was gone without a clue to us listener. WELCOME BACK WELCOME BACK, WELCOME BACK. 105.9 KISS FM ROCKS”
