In an essay for the “The Daring Issue” of Harper’s Bazaar, Pop Icon reveals that she was raped at knifepoint back in the day when she was trying to survive in the Big Apple. Her quote below says it all.
“New York wasn’t everything I thought it would be,” she writes. “It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don’t know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time.”
So many people look up to this woman so hopefully she helped someone just by revealing this news. You never know what someone is going through or what someone has been through. The things we endure can make us stronger or weaker depending on how we choose to deal with them.
