Kobalt Music Publishing announced the signing of a global publishing agreement with renowned singer-songwriter and multiple GRAMMY® Award winner, Lionel Richie.
Richard Sanders, President of Kobalt stated, “I couldn’t be more excited about welcoming Lionel Richie into the Kobalt family. A true global superstar, his music has touched billions of people and influenced artists around the world.”
Richie is unarguably one of the most successful artists of all time grossing more than 100 million album sales worldwide with five number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100. A recipient of four GRAMMY® Awards including Album Of The Year for 1983’s Can’t Slow Down, he’s become a cultural icon thanks to hits including “All Night Long,” “Hello,” “Truly,” ”Easy,” “Three Times A Lady,” “Dancing On The Ceiling,” “Endless Love,” and “Se La.”
Richie will begin his Las Vegas headlining residency show, “Lionel Richie – All the Hits,” inside The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Having recently headlined at Glastonbury 2015, Billboard noted that the stage belonged to Lionel Richie during the “legends” slot. The timeless performance at the festival propelled his 2003 album, The Definitive Collection to number one on the U.K. Charts. While he is a true veteran, his relevance to American pop-culture and music is unparalleled; he was chosen earlier this year by Pharrell Williams as a ‘Team Mentor’ on the The Voice. In 2016, Richie will be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year.
Throughout his career, Lionel Richie has been recognized time and time again for his talent, hard work, endless contribution to music, and overall humanitarian efforts.
Sue Drew, GM of Creative and Acquisitions at Kobalt stated, “It is an honor to be representing Lionel Richie, one of our American treasures. His body of work is a testament to his talent and success and we are proud to be working with him.”
