Amidst all the rumored changes about to take place at Sony and Universal, it appears one exec knows where he will be going. Industry vet LA Reid, whose contract with Universal Music is up in December, is getting an early release so that he can take part in Simon Cowell‘s show, The X Factor. The show awards a Sony Music recording contract worth $5 million to the winner and auditions begin March 27 in Los Angeles.
LA Reid started in the industry as a performer and group member for Ohio based R&B group The Deele. I have never OFFICIALLY met him but I’ve been in is presence on several occasions and if I were in his shoes, I would make the move too. For years he surrendered his performing days to be a record exec. He helped to solidify Atlanta as the R&B “new industry” city on the map and he’s proven himself at Def Jam. This is a GREAT time to make a move like this, more money, less stress. Who WOULDN’T take that.
