ST. ’ AT-WORK PLAYING MORE MUSIC, BETTER VARIETY

RADIO’s Fresh 102.5 (-FM) in St. Louis today announced the welcome addition of John Carney as the station’s morning drive time host, weekdays from 5:00 – 9:00, .   Carney will be heard on-air, online at www.fresh1025.com and through a variety of mobile devices including the iPhone, Touch, Blackberry and Zune starting January 24, 2011.

For over 40 years, St. Louisans’ have found comfort in the fact that there has been a Carney on-air in St. Louis.   Carney’s commitment to a career in radio came on the heels of his father’s advice, the late Jack Carney of fame. In July of 1998, Carney signed on at long time CBS Radio powerhouse .   That is where Carney has been heard up until his move to the new Fresh 102.5.

“John will be a great addition to round out our on-air staff on the new Fresh 102.5.   We are excited to have him join the team and help get our listeners to work every morning,” said Jeff Kapugi, for Fresh 102.5 and Y98.

Carney got his start in radio as the host of an afternoon country music show just outside of Denver.   Job two took Carney to Columbia, Missouri to board op for the syndicated Larry King show on KFRU radio. In 1986, he was heard on-air at KXOK.   From there, Carney had radio stints in the Ozarks and Carbondale, Illinois, co-hosting a classic rock morning show. Carney never gave up hope of returning to St. Louis and in 1989 he made a stop at WEW.     WIBV in St. Louis, which later became KTRS, was the next stop for Carney before his move to KMOX.

When Carney is off the air, he can be found hosting various charity events around town or playing with his one of his bands, The “Carn Dogs” Heartsfield” or “Mr. Wizzard”.   His other passion is helping kids. It was from this that the “Carney’s Kids Foundation” was born.   The organization raises awareness and funds each year for several children’s charities. 1. Who did John Carney replace on the morning show? Can’t remember his name–shame on me! I’ve listened to him for years and all of a sudden…gone. So sad.
