jacAPPS Develops iPhone App for Car Talk Show

download-1jacAPPS, the application division of Jacobs Media, announced today the release of an outstand ing addition to the iTunes Application Store ““ a unique iPhone application for the popular public radio program, “Car Talk.” The app provides fans of Click and Clack, The Tappet Brothers, access to the latest show, heard by 3.9 million listeners every week on more than 600 public radio stations. The app also includes favorite laughs from co-hosts Tom and Ray Magliozzi, along with some of the all-time favorite car sounds from listeners, audience chats, and even the ability to complain to the FCC about the show! The “Car Talk” application for iPhones and iPod Touch is available in the iTunes App Store for 99 ¢.

“The “˜Car Talk’ app has been a labor of love for our company,” jacAPPS President Fred Jacobs remarks. “We’ve been huge fans of the show for years. When we opened up jacAPPS a year ago, our focus was on developing apps for radio stations. But we quickly realized that great shows with loyal fans such as “˜Car Talk’s’ are perfectly suited to engage listeners in new and unique ways.”

For their part, the “Car Talk” hosts had reservations about developing an iPhone application. “We’re already on the FCC’s Most Wanted List,” said Ray, “and now we’ve got Steve Jobs pounding his fists, too.”

Early in 2009, jacAPPS approached the “Car Talk” producers with a concept for an iPhone app for the program. “Our original concept was to not only provide access to this week’s show,” comments Jacobs, “but also to share what makes “˜Car Talk’ so outstand ing. Not surprisingly, the “˜Car Talk’ team had great ideas also, so it made for a great collaboration. It was important that Tom and Ray’s unique style, their laughter and , of course, their listeners be represented in the experience. This app accomplishes all of that and more.”

Even after the successful collaboration, brother Tom Magliozzi wondered if anyone would download the app. “The question was, can we be more sophomoric and annoying than iFart? We aren’t sure.”

“Trust us,” said jacAPPs President Fred Jacobs, “You’ve succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.”
