We reported last week that Sony/ATV Music Publishing was potentially looking for buyers. Known as the company with the biggest publishing catalogue in the world that is has to be some serious money for anyone interested. SonyATV manages 3 million copyrights and a roster of songwriters that includes a large portion of the Beatles catalogue, Taylor Swift, and a host of others. The Michael Jackson estate also owns a portion of the catalogue as the estate has a joint venture with Sony.
If the rumors are true, the Jackson estate is looking to find a partner in the matter versus letting go of the catalogue completely. Potential candidates include companies like Warner Music Group, as well as private equity firms such as Apollo Global Management, according to an unamed source close to the matter.
We will keep a close eye on this as meetings continue to happen.
