Is Black on Black Crime now “Normal?”

black crime“….because Black on Black crime is “normal” ’ murder was an injustice…”

We can certainly appreciate iHeartmedia (formerly Clear Channel)’s recent desire to help support the injustice in the Jordan Davis murder but let’s take a deeper look into the problem….

So far this year there have been 436 gang-related killings in Chicago and that number continues to grow. Many of the people who died and those in the gangs are fatherless according to an article in the Chicago Defender. The author of the article blames a biased gender-based judicial system that alienates black fathers from their children but I tend to disagree, when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s many black men simply didn’t want shit to do with their children or their children’s mothers in droves with or without a court system. One could argue the mother made a poor decision on choosing her mate and they would be right but what about the child, what was his or her choice? Others may blame racism and discrimination pre and post Civil Rights and they would also be correct because the system denied black men a chance to be men slamming the doors of employment shut in many black men’s faces but allowing black women in. That same system also gave black men carte blanche to walk out on their families simply by denying the children in court. It was just that simple. Perhaps this was an evil and racist mapped out Master-plan to disrupt and destroy the black family and sadly it worked.

Black men are proud and many of them surrendered to the system and choose to spend their day on the street corner or at Mama and dems house well into their 40s while they continued to have children they didn’t care for. Sadly this is still happening today as an article was just posted about a 34 year old black man with 25 children none of which he cares for. He is labeled as a Professional Deadbeat Dad. (see vid at bottom). In this video another black man totally blames black women for being stupid enough to lay up with black men like this. Unfortunately, he does make some valid points BUT the black man needs to take responsibility too.

Times have changed and in just about every interview where black gang members are interviewed they admit they felt they had no family and the streets became their fathers. Has the black community made the horrible mistake of accepting the trend of not being responsible for our children   as a “norm” many would agree yes. In the past and still the present, the black woman’s family would step in to help raise the fatherless children as if it was automatic but that was never enough. Having both parents involved in a black child’s life is not an option or an either/or it’s a birthright and as a black community we must realize that we have failed our children miserably in this area. The father can absolutely hate the mother of his children but he OWES those children the right to be loved, protection and security.

The gang problem has been around for many decades now and the author in the Defender is correct in saying that the black community cannot continue to blame the police force for a problem in our own community. When young boys (and girls) don’t have a relationship with their fathers they often seek that connection in the streets. To further exacerbate the problem the black community is currently experiencing a huge divide between blacks and “niggas” and if you listen to the conversation of many of us, we look down on “niggas.” These are most often the people who live in ghettos, who have criminal pasts and who are constantly on the news. So have we now thrown away our children AND a large part of our community too? Why?

The recent unjust murder of black teen Jordan Davis by a 47-year-old white assailant who asked the youth to turn his music down has the black community infuriated. Not again, we cry. Another black youth murdered senselessly by a white man this is unacceptable…but is it acceptable for a black youth to murder another black youth? I can’t help but to wonder how many of the black men in the audience of these televised protests for these kinds of killings have not seen their OWN children in a year or two? Where are the radio protests, the street protests the black churches, the seminars, the neighborhood watches, the black fathers and even the black community in these consistently recurring situations? There is no question that the murder of anyone is wrong and in the past year, two black youths have been murdered by what appears to be bias but what about the thousands of young black men who are murdered by other black men nationwide on a daily basis for not reason at all? Who is concerned about that? To that end. I asked a good friend the same question which prompted this story. This is an otherwise brilliant individual who’s opinions I respect but I was dumbfounded at his response when I asked about black on black crime vs murders like Jordan Davis. He responded: Jordan Davis is just f’d up and WRONG but black and black crime is normal. If a white person was to say, ‘why are you black people so up in arms about one murder by a white man when you kill each other everyday…’ would they be right? Your thoughts?
