Industry Vet Al Anderson Dies in Atlanta

UnknownIndustry vet Al Anderson passed away last week unexpectedly. He was taken off life support on Wednesday after being found unresponsive in his home. Al, the owner of Anderson Communications, was innovative, creating the syndicated radio show “Inspirations Across America” hosted by Bert Johnson and produced by Vanessa Vaughn at a time when syndication was still relatively rare in black radio markets. I worked with the show to bring in notables like Heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield and comedian Jonathan Slocomb as celebrity co-hosts with Bert. At its height, it was the number one syndicated gospel radio show heard nationally. He went on to produce other radio shows and vignettes. He will be remembered for bringing gospel to many of the smaller markets that didn’t have a local gospel formatted radio station. Funeral plans have not been announced.
