ASCAP PROMOTES Colleen McDonough

colleen-mcdonough-300The ASCAP Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting American music creators through music education, talent development and humanitarian initiatives, today announced that Colleen McDonough has been promoted to Executive Director of the Foundation, effective July 1st. She succeeds Karen Sherry, who recently retired after 17 years in the role.

“The Foundation is one of our most vital resources for young people starting out on the path to creating music, and Colleen has been a huge asset since she joined its leadership team, constantly pushing the organization to new heights,” said Paul Williams, President of The ASCAP Foundation Board of Directors. “Foundation programs like The Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Awards and our annual Washington, DC “We Write the Songs” featuring America’s greatest songwriters and composers have flourished over the last several years. With Colleen’s guidance, I’m confident that we will continue to find exciting new ways to benefit young music creators and to extend the legacies of those that have come before them.”

McDonough, formerly Director of The Foundation, has been a driving force in fundraising and program management. During her tenure, she cultivated potential donors and acquired significant bequests, helping to boost Foundation funding by 175%. McDonough increased the number of Foundation programs from 65 to 163, which now reach more than two million participants annually. Funds spent on programs rose more than 200%. McDonough served as associate producer of The ASCAP Centennial Awards, and oversaw the implementation of new initiatives such as Creativity in the Classroom, Children Will Listen, Songwriters: The Next Generation at the Kennedy Center, Young Jazz Composers Awards and the Fresh Air Fund Summer Guitar Camp.

KOBALT MUSIC PUBLISHING SIGNS DEAL WITH LEGENDARY MUSIC PUBLISHER BLUE MOUNTAIN MUSIC
Kobalt-logoKobalt, the leading independent music publishing and global music rights management services company, announced today they have signed a global administration agreement with Blue Mountain Music Ltd which includes the complete works of Bob Marley. Kobalt Music Publishing will administer and provide publishing services and synch licensing services worldwide to Blue Mountain’s established catalog and growing publishing roster. Blue Mountain Music maintains offices in London and New York from which it will continue to sign and foster new talent and oversee its business interests.

Blue Mountain Music, a widely respected and well-known independent music publishing company, was founded in 1962 by legendary Island Records founder Chris Blackwell. In addition to Bob Marley, the company houses the works of many elite and accomplished artists such as U2 (back-catalog), Free, Toots and the Maytals and John Martyn, as well as newer priority signings such as Chronixx, John Grant, Dexter Tortoriello (Dawn Golden/Houses), among others.

Dave Stewart Signs Wide-Ranging Deal With BMG
DAVESTMusician, songwriter and creative entrepreneur Dave Stewart has reached a wide-ranging agreement with Bertelsmann-owned new model music company BMG which will embrace not just music, but book and TV content and a string of other innovative projects.

The deal plays to BMG’s strength as the only music company to be integrated into a full-service global media business. It will also utilize Stewart’s skills as a creative entrepreneur to generate new synergies between BMG’s sister companies.

Under the multi-faceted deal:

BMG will exclusively administer music publishing rights to Dave Stewart’s solo work including his work with fellow BMG writer Mick Jagger (the Golden Globe-winning ‘Old Habits Die Hard’ on the Alfie soundtrack), Superheavy (‘Miracle Worker’), No Doubt (‘Underneath It All’), Eurythmics (‘I’ve Got a Life’), Stevie Nicks (‘In Your Dreams’) and Joss Stone (‘Karma’), as well as his future work;

This includes songs he has co-written with artists on his own label such as Thomas Lindsey, The Lake Poets, Hollie Stephenson and Shel, and the latest single by his daughter Kaya Stewart ‘In Love With A Boy’, named this week as the hottest new record at US Pop radio;

BMG will administer rights in all contestants’ songs from the forthcoming prime-time NBC songwriting talent show Songland, created by Dave Stewart and Executive-produced by Dave Stewart and The Voice producer Audrey Morrissey;

New American Library, a division of sister Bertelsmann company Penguin Random House will publish Dave Stewart’s long-awaited autobiography next year;

Dave Stewart will record a live concert programme for Berlin Live, BMG’s collaboration with pan-European cultural television broadcaster Arte;

Creative social network Talenthouse, in which Dave Stewart is the Creative Director and investor, is working with BMG to create new remixes of tracks from the seminal Trojan Records reggae catalogue as well as working on a documentary for this iconic Label.

Stewart will act as a brand ambassador for BMG, responsible for driving new business opportunities through his extensive network, both to BMG and its sister Bertelsmann companies.
