20 YEARS OF THE HIP HOP CULTURE WILL BE CELEBRATED JUNE 19-21, 2015 IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA
[Atlanta, GA February 13, 2015] Over three days, four concert events will celebrate the rich history of the South’s hip hop culture that has impacted the world. In 1995 Radio One, Inc. launched a new and innovative station WHTA “Hot 97.5” playing Hip Hop 24 hours a day. In 1996, at Variety Playhouse, WHTA celebrated their first Birthday Bash with ‘The #1 Bad Boy Takeover’ featuring Craig Mack and the Notorious BIG. This year Hot 107.9 will celebrate its 20th Birthday with the Birthday Bash 20 Weekend with concerts events celebrating the past, the present and future of Hip Hop with a complete weekend of activities and VIP experiences.
Operations Manager Hurricane Dave said, “It’s amazing when a hip-hop station can still be relevant after 20 years. Hot 1079 has been part of some of the biggest artist careers in the history of hip-hop. The Notorious B.I.G., TI, Jeezy, Future, Jay-Z, Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West have all graced the Hot 1079 Birthday Bash Stage. Every year it’s not just about their performance but who will bring out the biggest surprise guests of the night. Birthday Bash weekend is a celebration of the past, today’s hottest stars and who is next to blow.”
Friday June 19th kicks the weekend off celebrating the early years of Hip Hop concert at the historic Tabernacle Downtown Atlanta for the “Classic Throwback Concert” hosted by Rickey Smiley.
Saturday June 20th is “The show before the show” during the day in Centennial Olympic Park is the pre-Birthday Bash Block Party with live performances by new and established artists. Artists in the past include Atlanta’s own Goodie Mob, Pastor Troy and many new artists. This FREE block party, hosted by Hot 107.9 air personalities will have vendors, interactive displays, vehicles, and contests.
Saturday June 20th is Birthday Bash 20 in Philips Arena which promises to be an epic experience with a phenomenal line up of performances. Historically, Birthday Bash has been known to close out the show with surprise guests and artists which has always been a hit with attendees. This year’s line up guarantees to be nothing less than a sell-out success!
Sunday June 21st at Variety Playhouse, the site of the very first Birthday Bash in 1996, will host a concert highlighting the Future of Hip Hop “The Next to Go” spotlighting up and coming artists. The newest hip hop culture will perform a concert showing their passion for the future of hip hop.
