San Francisco’s gay-oriented radio station has been sold after five years of broadcasting, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
KNGY, Energy 92.7, owned by Flying Bear Media, was sold in August for a reported $6.5 million to Golden State Broadcasting, according to rbr.com, a website devoted to radio and television business news.
New owner GSB took control of the station on Thursday evening and dismissed the staff of about 35, the paper reported. The new station is called “the Rev FM,” as in revolution. The purchase transformed KNGY from a high-energy dance station to KREV, a mainstream Top 40 broadcaster.
“The station lasted five years,” Jason Dahlstedt, producer of KNGY’s Fernand o and Greg in the Morning show, told the paper. “When it launched, everybody said it wouldn’t make it past a year.”
