Emmis Communications New York announces radio legend, Fred “Bugsy” Buggs, as new Assistant Program Director of 98.7 KISS FM, New York’s Best Variety of Classic Soul and Today’s R&B. With over 18 years of experience at Emmis New York, ranging from being an on-air midday personality at KISS FM’s sister station HOT 97, on-air personality throughout a number of dayparts on KISS FM and most currently being in the seat as the producer for The Tom Joyner Morning Show, Bugsy has great expertise as a previous Program Director in the world of radio and on the label side of the business. He is a skilled legend ready to welcome more programming duties.
“Bugsy has extensive knowledge about the market and its history. He has been a great example of someone who has a solid history here at Emmis NY and has done everything from midday jock on HOT 97 to being the Tom Joyner Morning Show producer,” said Jay Dixon, Program Director of 98.7 KISS FM. “Bugsy is a well rounded talent in all areas with great leadership skills, is committed to our mission and is the ideal person to solidify the KISS brand.”
Bugsy will continue to hold the spear as the producer for The Tom Joyner Morning Show, will also still be able to be heard every Saturday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on KISS FM and will now also take the reigns on developing KISS programming and mix show content, developing new weekly features, assisting with staffing and the overall operations of the KISS FM Programming Department.
“This completes a solid programming team to ensure the success of KISS FM and the movement up the ranker to KISS FM’s rightful position. I am confident that is only a few months away,” states Alex Cameron, SVP General Manager of Emmis NY.
Bugsy began setting his path in the media world and started his career in New York City over 25 years ago. While taking an “East Coast tour” and gracing his presence with other stations throughout Florida, Washington, DC, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Bugsy returned back home to New York City with an even greater wealth of knowledge and experience in his pockets. His expertise in production and artist development landed him a job with Def Jam Records where he worked with the likes of other legends like Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie. His love for radio shortly drew him back to the airwaves where he returned to 98.7 KISS FM for good.
“I’m humbled,” expresses Fred “Bugsy” Buggs. “It’s great to be on the management team for Emmis New York, a place I’ve called home for quite some time now and where I’ve spent most of my career. I’m looking forward to continued growth opportunities and bigger things to come with my KISS family and am just ready to win and keep the successes going.”
