Comedians including Larry the Cable Guy, Jim Breuer, Bill Engvall and fans contribute Carlin memories, reflections and inspiration
SIRIUS Satellite Radio will broadcast a fan tribute to George Carlin to honor the life, career and influence of the comedy icon. The special will feature personal reflections and memories from fellow comedians and fans interwoven with classic Carlin stand -up material.
The tribute will premiere June 29 at 10:00 am ET exclusively on SIRIUS Raw Dog Comedy Uncensored channel 104, and will rebroadcast at 1:00 pm ET, and 8:00 pm ET. It will also air Sunday at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm ET.
“SIRIUS’ Raw Dog Comedy channel was flooded with calls from Carlin fans across the country for 16 straight hours on Monday,” said Jeremy Coleman, Senior Vice President and GM of Talk and Entertainment at SIRIUS. “Comedy fans and well-known stand -up comedians alike called in to share their personal memories and reflect on how Carlin inspired them.”
The special features impromptu calls from Carlin’s colleagues and fans, select excerpts below: Blue Collar Comedy’s Bill Engvall: “The thing that I loved the most about George and the thing that is going to be missed the most is not only did he make you laugh, but he made you think, he made you question and if I could have one tenth of that talent I would be thrilled.”
Comedian Jim Florentine: “What I loved about him”¦.he said “˜I’ll go on and talk about abortion for twenty straight minutes and make the crowd really uncomfortable when it’s something I really want to talk about, and then I’ll throw them a bone for five minutes and talk about farts”¦..I like to meet the audience half way’ which always stuck in my mind.”
Comedian Colin Quinn: “He actually put in the work”¦he would go and write and work out every night”¦nobody did as much as him.” Blue Collar Comedy’s Larry the Cable Guy: “¦there was no one better.” Other contributors include comedian Brad Zimmerman, a comedian who opened for Carlin many times, and Raw Dog hosts and stand -up comedians Pete Dominick, Jim Breuer and Mark Seman. In addition SIRIUS hosts Jay Thomas and Alex Bennett share their reflections. The tribute will also feature a one-on-one interview Raw Dog host Mark Seman conducted with Carlin at the 2007 Aspen Comedy Festival.
