Eddie Harrell, Jr. Promoted to Regional Vice President of Radio One’s Ohio Markets Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus markets have a new senior leader
(October 19, 2015…Silver Spring, MD): Today, Alfred Liggins, President and CEO of Radio One, Inc. announced the promotion of Eddie Harrell, Jr., Vice President and General Manager of Radio One Cleveland to Regional Vice President of Ohio, where the company has three thriving urban markets in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus. Harrell said, “This is a historic time in our company, as we are celebrating 35 years of existence. I am proud to be part of our team and look forward to leading our Ohio markets as we continue to make history.”
Harrell started his radio career with Radio One in 2011 when he served as Vice President and General Manager of Radio One Columbus. Having proved to be an extraordinary leader with a strong business acumen and dedication to the community, Harrell was the likely candidate to fill this newly created Regional Vice President role. A 2012 NAB Broadcast Leadership Training Program graduate, Harrell relocated to Cleveland in 2014 to lead Radio One’s four cluster market in Cleveland (WENZ-FM, WZAK-FM, WEREAM, WJMO-AM) where he will continue as General Manager while having oversight of the other two markets. “Eddie’s accomplishments as a leader in education, community service, civil rights, and most importantly, Radio One, have been nothing short of exceptional. I’m thrilled to see him continue to grow his career with this great company,” said Jeff Wilson, Senior Regional Vice President & General Manager, Radio One-DC. Prior to joining Radio One and starting a career in radio, Harrell was a highly respected business man and civic leader.
Harrell served as the President and CEO of the Columbus Urban League, Executive Director of I KNOW I CAN (college access program) and held various management positions with The Kroger Company. Harrell also served as a Commissioner of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, through a gubernatorial appointment, from 2008-2012. He served as Chairman of the Commission from 2009-2011. In addition to his role at Radio One, Harrell currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Otterbein University Board of Trustees (Chair-Governance Committee, Finance Committee) and is on the board of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. Harrell received a B.A. in Business Administration from Otterbein College (now Otterbein University) and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Ashland University. He and his wife, Valerie, are the proud parents of Kayla and Eddie III.
