Broadcast Music, Inc. rapper-and-producer duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis topped this year’s American Music Awards nominations, accumulating a total of six nods. The Seattle natives are up for Artist of the Year, Single of the Year (“Thrift Shop), Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, Favorite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop, New Artist of the Year, and Favorite Band Duo or Group in the Pop/Rock categories.
BMI superstars Taylor Swift and Rihanna also received numerous accolades. Swift dominated in both the Pop/Rock and Country genres – she is up for five awards including Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Country category, and Favorite Pop/Rock and Country Album. Rihanna also competes for the Artist of the Year Award, as well as for Favorite Female Artist-Pop/Rock, Favorite Female Artist-Soul/R&B, and her latest release, Unapologetic, is up for Best Album in the Soul/R&B category.
Country music chart-toppers Florida Georgia Line (part of BMI’s “New Class of Country”) tied Rihanna with four nods, including a nomination for Single of the Year for their record-breaking single “Cruise,” featuring Nelly. They are also up for New Artist of the Year, Favorite Band, Duo or Group in Country, and Here’s to the Good Times is up for Favorite Album in the Country category.
Alternative rock band Imagine Dragons received three nominations, while Pink and One Direction received two nods each. Other nominees include Daft Punk, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert, Lil Wayne Phillip Phillips and The Band Perry. BMI Latin artist Prince Royce is up for Favorite Artist in the Latin Music category while TobyMac and Chris Tomlin are both up for Favorite Artist in the Contemporary Inspirational category. In total, BMI artists garnered an impressive 42 nominations across 19 categories.
