SiriusXM’s Joe Madison welcomed Travyon Martin’s father Tracey Martin and Daryl Parks, the Martin family attorney and advocate, for an interview in studio on his SiriusXM “Joe Madison Show” today (Wednesday, March 28) at SiriusXM’s studios in Washington, D.C.
As he has done daily on air since this story broke, Madison opened up the phone lines and invited listeners across country””from all backgrounds””to join the important national conversation sparked by the death of the Florida teen. Today, Madison’s listeners has the chance to talk directly to Tracey Martin, and Martin got to thank them for their support, saying that without them he and his wife and family “wouldn’t have a crutch to lean on.” They also discussed why there might not need to be a grand jury hearing on April 10 and Madison revealed that a prominent sculptor is planning to build a memorial of Trayvon for the family.
Attorney Daryl Parks explained why the family wants Zimmerman to have his day in court: “We are pushing for the day that we see George Zimmerman suffer what you see many others in our community suffer””he [should be] arrested, handcuffed and brought before a judge to face his day. We want him to have his day in court so we can have our day in court and watch him.”

On the possibility that there might not have to be a grand jury hearing on April 10:
Attorney Daryl Parks: “¦we believe there might be a better due course, legally”¦[Florida State Attorney] Angela Corry””once she takes the statements of the witnesses she has the power to do what’s called a “˜direct filing.’ And that circumvents [having to] go to the grand jury.”
The family wants Zimmerman to have his day in court, so they can have theirs:
Daryl Parks: “We are pushing for the day that we see George Zimmerman suffer what you see many others in our community suffer””he [should be] arrested, handcuffed and brought before a judge to face his day. We want him to have his day in court so we can have our day in court and watch him.”
Madison reveals that African-American sculptor Ed Dwight”” renowned for creating public memorials and statues for key figures in our country’s civil rights history including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks, Alex Haley and Frederick Douglas””has pledged to create and donate a life-size sculpture of Trayvon for the family to place and do with as they wish:
Joe Madison: “There is a famous sculptor named Ed Dwight, who was commissioned to do the King Memorial. He said that he is going to do a”¦full, life-size sculpture of Trayvon and [it’s up] to the family to decide to put it wherever [they] want to put it. He was one of the first African-Americans recruited as a NASA astronaut, and he’s a self-taught sculptor. This is how”¦[Trayvon’s story] this has moved people.”
A father says thank you, and wants the world to know Trayvon was a good son:
Tracey Martin: “The attempt to smear my son’s name is very disrespectful in his death”¦I’d like the world to know that our son was a good son despite all of these accusations. Without [the] support [of so many people] we wouldn’t have a crutch to lean on. We really want to thank everyone for their support.”
