Ashanti Releases New Single “Never Should Have” From Forthcoming Album “Braveheart”

AshantiGrammy Award winning, multi-platinum singer/songwriter, actor and author announces the release of her new single, “Never Should Have.” The heartfelt ballad is now available on iTunes and is the latest single from her forthcoming album, “Braveheart,” which will be released on June 11, 2013 on Written Entertainment/eOne Music. A video for the single was just shot in Santa Barbara, CA with director Sanji Senaka (David Guetta & Nicki Minaj, , , , etc.) and will be serviced shortly.

Additionally, Ashanti made her series regular debut on Army Wives this season as “Latasha Montclair,” a force of nature and an indomitable spirit for whom “southern hospitality” isn’t just a concept, it’s a way of life. Latasha finds joy in navigating the daily chaos of singlehandedly wrangling her three children while her husband, “Quincy” (Joshua Henry, Godspell, The Scottsboro Boys), is deployed overseas. Ashanti’s new single “Never Should Have” is currently featured in the promos for Season 7 and will be in an episode of the series as well.

Army Wives airs Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT on Lifetime.

Her self- titled debut Album landed at the #1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts. It sold a whopping 504,000 in the first week granting her a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. She also won a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album. She has since released four albums, achieving multi-platinum success. In addition to creating music, Ashanti has had a successful acting career, appearing in numerous movies (Coach Carter, John Tucker Must Die and Resident Evil Extinction) including two #1 box office films and several television shows.


  1. When Ashanti was 14, she was discovered by P.Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. Initially, she went to Bad Boy Records and sang one of Mary J. Blige’s songs in front of P.Diddy and Biggie Smalls. After being impressed by her singing ability, Diddy had her sign to a development deal. In the end, due to a bad contract, Ashanti did not sign with Diddy. This ultimately led to a record deal with Jive Records in 1994.*
