“There are so many unsung heroes in our communities,” said Yashima White AziLove, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Radio One, Inc. “The Hometown Champion Award is our way of telling the good news of the work that happens daily in our communities that often gets overshadowed by negativity; and it allows us to reward ordinary people who do extraordinary things. This is our way of recognizing great work and honoring outstanding people.”
Listeners across Radio One’s 56 stations and 15 markets can nominate their Hometown Champion by simply uploading a photo with a brief essay on how their nominee is a community hero. The public will vote online and the Champion with the most accumulated votes per market will receive a trip for two to the NAACP Image Awards, in addition to a $1000 cash prize. Fifteen deserving Champions will win.
